Convert VRO to AVI/WMV – Solution VRO Compatibility Problem for Editing in Windows Movie Maker
VRO file is the video and audio data file for DVD disc in VR mode. When the disc is finalized, you may find the VR_MOVIE.VRO, VR_MANGR.IFO and even VR_MANGR.BUP on the DVD disc. However, you may notice that there is compatibility problem when trying to import VRO to Windows Movie Maker. Windows Movie Maker does not read the .vro files at all.

Solution 1. Rename VRO with different file extension.
Since the VRO files are compressed according to MPEG-2 standard, you can copy the .vro file from the camcorder or DVD disc to computer hard disk and then change the file extension from .vro to .mpg. You may also change the name VR_MOVIE to any name you like.
After renaming the file extension, Windows Movie Maker now recognizes the .mpg video, and imports the recorded video files. It works well when you just need to add transactions to different clips. However, if you want to split the video, you may notice that the split point is totally out of sync.
Solution 2. Convert VRO to AVI.
If the VRO file or DVD disc is copy-protected or you need to split the recorded video, it is recommended that you follow this solution making the recorded videos completely compatible to Windows Movie Maker.
